A Message from the Board President and Dr. Puglisi/Un Mensaje del Presidente de la Mesa Directiva and el Dr. Puglisi
Rio District Families,
As the Rio School District Board President, I want to take a moment to inform our school community that our trustees have approved Dr. Puglisi’s resignation. I would like to recognize and thank Superintendent Puglisi for his years of service to our students, staff, and families.
Leadership transitions are big moments for organizations, and it is important to honor the contributions of all employees that have served before us. Dr. Puglisi has asked for an opportunity to share a final message of gratitude with the district community, and I am pleased to share his sentiments with each of you below.
As the board continues the process of selecting a new superintendent, I look forward to building on the strengths of our district, listening to our staff and community, and working together to support all the students we serve. I anticipate providing an update on that process by the end of the week following Wednesday’s board meeting.

Re: Farewell message of gratitude from Superintendent Puglisi
Greetings Rio School District Families,
After 14 years leading and serving the Rio School District as Superintendent and 40 years in public schools in California, I have decided to move on to the next phase of career and life. While I continue to work as a professor/lecturer at CSUCI and have taught University graduate classes for more than 20 years, the time is right for change.
I send my best thoughts and wishes for the children and families of the Rio School District as well as all the employees of the Rio School District. There is no higher calling than work that serves children and family. It has been my pleasure and great experience to lead the District these last 14 years. Together, there have been many accomplishments and outstanding experiences provided for children and teachers to achieve, grow, and thrive. Each person in the organization, including the superintendent, is a part of these efforts.
I look forward to watching the Rio District continue to grow and thrive. It's my hope that a few things sustain in the next few decades. They include:
Excellence in Teaching
Commitment to quality bilingual education.
Commitment to arts education
Commitment to athletics at the District and community level
Commitment to STEAM learning (Science,Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics)
Commitment to Inquiry based learning
Sound Budgets that provide what is needed to run the District and respond to risk
Commitment to Farm- based learning and the development and growth of the Rio Regenerative farm.
Commitment to providing field trips and assemblies that provide rich experiences for children to learn and enjoy.
Commitment to being kind. Kind with every child and kind to each other as employees, community members, and humans.
Commitment to be leaders and to support at all levels of the District.
Commitment to excellence in all aspects of the organization.
Rio families have always been amazingly engaged, resilient, creative, and active in their children's learning. The ideal learning relationship is a TRIANGLE. Parents of children are the essential educators of their children and team with teachers each year and over the years to provide the best possible experience and learning environment for their children to learn and grow. I have full faith that Rio families will continue in this vein and I look forward to seeing the results that emerge from that strong triangular learning and caretaking bond forged among children, parents, teachers, and schools.

Como presidente de la Mesa Directiva del Distrito Escolar Rio, deseo informar a nuestra comunidad escolar que los miembros de la Mesa Directiva han aprobado la renuncia del Dr. Puglisi. Quisiera reconocer y agradecer al Superintendente Puglisi por sus años de servicio a nuestros estudiantes, al personal y a las familias.
Las transiciones de liderazgo son momentos importantes para las organizaciones, y nosotros queremos honrar las contribuciones de todos los empleados que nos han precedido. El Dr. Puglisi ha solicitado la oportunidad de compartir un mensaje final de gratitud con la comunidad del distrito, y me complace transmitirles sus palabras a continuación.

Mensaje de despedida y agradecimiento del Superintendente Puglisi
Saludos a las familias del Distrito Escolar Rio:
Tras 14 años liderando y sirviendo al Distrito Escolar Rio como superintendente, y 40 años en el sistema de escuelas públicas de California, he decidido pasar a la siguiente etapa de mi carrera y de mi vida. Aunque continúo trabajando como profesor/docente en CSUCI —donde he impartido clases de posgrado durante más de 20 años—, considero que es el momento adecuado para un cambio.
Envío mis mejores deseos a los niños y familias del Distrito Escolar Rio, así como a todos sus empleados. No existe una vocación más noble que la labor dedicada a servir a los niños y a las familias. Ha sido un placer y una experiencia maravillosa liderar el distrito durante estos últimos 14 años. Juntos, hemos logrado grandes cosas y brindado experiencias excepcionales para que tanto niños como maestros puedan alcanzar sus metas, crecer y prosperar. Cada persona de la organización, incluido el superintendente, forma parte de estos esfuerzos.
Espero ver cómo el Distrito Río continúa creciendo y prosperando. Deseo que ciertos aspectos perduren en las próximas décadas, entre ellos:
La excelencia en la enseñanza.
Un compromiso de una educación bilingüe de calidad y tambien de la educación artística
Un compromiso de actividades deportivas a nivel del distrito y de la comunidad
Un compromiso de un programa de aprendizaje STEAM (Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería, Artes y Matemáticas)
Un compromiso que el aprendizaje esté basado en la indagación
Presupuestos sólidos que cubren las necesidades operativas del distrito y permiten responder ante posibles riesgos
Un compromiso que el aprendizaje esté basado en actividades agrícolas y con el desarrollo y crecimiento de la granja regenerativa Río
Un compromiso de ofrecer excursiones y asambleas que brinden experiencias enriquecedoras para que los niños aprendan y disfruten
Un compromiso de actuar con amabilidad: amabilidad hacia cada niño y entre nosotros como empleados, miembros de la comunidad y seres humanos
Un compromiso de ejercer el liderazgo y brindar apoyo en todos los niveles del distrito
Un compromiso con la excelencia en todos los aspectos de la organización
Las familias de Rio siempre han demostrado una participación, resiliencia, creatividad y actividad extraordinarias en el aprendizaje de sus hijos. La relación de aprendizaje ideal es un TRIÁNGULO. Los padres son los educadores fundamentales de sus hijos y colaboran con los maestros, año tras año, para ofrecerles la mejor experiencia y el entorno de aprendizaje más propicio para su desarrollo y crecimiento. Confío plenamente en que las familias de Río seguirán en esta misma línea, y espero con interés ver los resultados que surjan de este sólido vínculo triangular de aprendizaje y cuidado, forjado entre niños, padres, maestros y escuelas.
