Dear Río Real Students, Parents and Guardians, August 6, 2024

I am happy to welcome you to Río Real for the 2024-2025 school year! It is with pleasure and much excitement that we await the return of our students and families. All of us at Río Real are excited to see you again to continue our journey toward bilingualism, biliteracy and sociocultural learning!

I am happy to share with you that we heard your feedback about our 1st Day Ready Packets procedure and have streamlined our process. This year you will be filling out the start of school paperwork online. If you need help we have scheduled 3 days of assistance (August 12-14 from 9:30-6:30) for families who may need a computer or help in filling out the forms.

In this mailing you will find the links to our annual calendar and bell schedule for the 24-54 school year. Please refer to the Rio School District Academic Calendar included in this packet and keep it close at hand to note any minimum days or check our website for the calendar of minimum days.

I look forward to your support as we move forward in building our school community, reconnect with students and each other and recommit to dual language and our guiding principles of REAL: Responsible, Respectful, Enthusiastic, Accepting Leaders. Our goal is to help students develop into independent, critical thinkers who learn and contribute to their world!

Be safe, enjoy the last few days of summer and I look forward to the start of school on Wednesday, August 21st at 7:45 a.m. for TK-5th grade and 8:00 for middle school students. I am confident that this year will bring new opportunities for learning and achieving. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me or stop by the office.

TK and Kinder: School starts at 7:45. TK and Kinder students enter through the 1st grade gate and head over to the picnic tables in the kinder yard for breakfast.

From August 21 to October 31 -

TK students will be released at 12:23

Kinder students are released at 12:28

Please be on time to pick your child up at the gate.

Attendance

As you may know attendance is critical to the academic success a child experiences in school. We ask that all students come to school every day and on time. It is our goal to maintain our title of the school with the highest attendance (97%) in the Rio School District.

Breakfast and Lunch

All students at Rio Real are eligible to receive Breakfast and Lunch at no cost to you. All students will eat breakfast in the classroom or picnic tables and lunch in the cafeteria or picnic tables. Students may bring a healthy lunch from home.

Students who eat breakfast have higher levels of concentration and an increased capacity for learning when there is food in the tummy that is feeding the brain. This program will begin on the first day of school.

PTA

Join our dedicated team of parents by getting involved in our Parent Teacher Association and/or School Site Council.

PTSA is looking for volunteer parents to organize and help with a few student activities throughout the year. Any help is appreciated! Please contact Laura Torres-Camarillo by email at: ltorres@rioschools.org if you would like to be involved in the PTSA. Thank you in advance for your participation with PTA!

School Site Council (SSC) is a committee that works collaboratively to assist in developing, implementing and evaluating the school’s various programs. The SSC meets between 5 to 7 times a year on the third Wednesday of the month from 4-5:30. This year we need to elect a total of 2 parents. These positions are 3 year terms on our School Site Council. If you would like to serve on the Rio Real School Site Council or know of someone else who might be interested, please complete the nomination form sent home in the 1st week of school.
